2/365 - A meditation on forgetfulness

This feels a bit underdeveloped. It’s something of an attempt to express my frustration that, even after all these years as a Christian, I still find it so easy to forget God as I go about my daily business, and how hard it can be to stay focussed on following Jesus…

How quickly I forget what you have done O Lord

The rigours of the day chase every trace away

But I believe that you work in my heart

I believe that your Spirit lives in me

I beg of you my Lord

Transform my weary heart

Let Your living water

Flow through my veins

Lord Jesus I cry to You

Transform me to be like You

With a willing spirit I want to follow You

O Lord hear me now

Restart - 1/365 - Sing His Praise

I know what you’re thinking: what happened? Where have you been? (Well, maybe you’re not actually - you’re probably not that bothered, which is fine.)

It’s all pretty mundane to be honest. Life became very busy, and I was very tired, and I missed a day, and then I missed another day, and then the terrible realisation dawned on me that I’d stacked my 365 and I was going to have to start again. But then of course I’d lost momentum, and there was always a reason why I should leave it until tomorrow to start again.

And, all of a sudden, now it’s April.

Hmm. Fail.

However, I have decided that today is the day when I should start again, so I’m starting again. I certainly need the practice.

Here’s today’s lyric…

VERSE 1
I give thanks to you my God
I worship you my King
For you lifted me from out the grave
Saved me an have made me a son in Your Kingdom

CHORUS
I’m gonna sing His praise
And lift His name
I’m gonna give Him praise
With all my heart
I’m gonna shout it out
I live for Jesus
I’m gonna follow Him
For all my life

VERSE 2
Your name is precious O Lord on high
Your salvation a mystery of Your grace
You lift us up in your hands
You call your people from every land

CHORUS
I’m gonna sing His praise
And lift His name
I’m gonna give Him praise
With all my heart
I’m gonna shout it out
I live for Jesus
I’m gonna follow Him
For all my life

BRIDGE
All my days I will live for You
All my days I will give to You

CHORUS
I’m gonna sing His praise
And lift His name
I’m gonna give Him praise
With all my heart
I’m gonna shout it out
I live for Jesus
I’m gonna follow Him
For all my life

60/365 - 22nd February - The love of God working in you

Here’s today’s lyric…

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

Oh He sanctifies us like wind and tide sculpting the rocks

Oh He gently changes, He shifts our course, He remakes our souls

He gives us new birth and makes us new creations

By His power transforms us into the likeness of His Son

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

He calls the things that are not as though they are

He makes the dead come back to life, He breathes on dry bones

He creates from nothing, He weaves the universe by His wisdom

By His power He will transform creation and make it new

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

Can you feel the love of God working in you?

Do you know His streams of living water flowing through you?

59/365 - 21st February - You are my rock

Here’s today’s lyric…

VERSE 1

Dark clouds may swirl from the horizon

A storm may blast round about

But I will hold on to my security

The Lord who is my rock

CHORUS

You are my rock, you are my refuge

You are my tower, you are my strength

You will support me

You will endure with me

Whatever life may throw

VERSE 2

I thank you that you are ever present

You live within my heart

And through the heart of darkness

Your presence will be my guard

CHORUS

You are my rock, you are my refuge

You are my tower, you are my strength

You will support me

You will endure with me

Whatever life may throw

BRIDGE

Oh my Lord, your presence is precious to me

Without you I cannot survive

I would not give you up my treasure

For all the earth can provide

CHORUS

You are my rock, you are my refuge

You are my tower, you are my strength

You will support me

You will endure with me

Whatever life may throw

58/365 - 20th February - Your yoke upon me is light

Had a few issues getting on the internet yesterday after work so I’ve delayed posting this up…

VERSE 1

I thank you that you give me rest

In times of trouble and strife

You lead me by the still waters

And give me relief in pastures grain

CHORUS

I thank you for your easy burden

Your yoke upon me is light

O help me to remember Lord

To rest in you and not strive

To rest in you and not strive

VERSE 2

Oh Father trouble may be here

It may lurk at my door

But even when the future is dark

In you I know I am secure

CHORUS

I thank you for your easy burden

Your yoke upon me is light

O help me to remember Lord

To rest in you and not strive

To rest in you and not strive

BRIDGE

The weary and burdened you give rest

The troubled you bring relief

All anxiety will flee away

As you fill us with your peace

CHORUS

I thank you for your easy burden

Your yoke upon me is light

O help me to remember Lord

To rest in you and not strive

To rest in you and not strive

57/365 - 19th February

I feel pretty wretched at the moment, and in need of God’s mercy. Here’s today’s lyric. It’s just a short one, but it pretty much nails how I feel at the moment.

VERSE 1

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away

But when all is said and done I will declare him true

For he disciplines those he loves

And his love and his wrath sometimes look similar

REFRAIN

Have mercy on me, a sinner, O Lord!

Have mercy on me, a wretch!

Have mercy on me, a sinner, O Lord!

By your Son, please have mercy on me!

VERSE 2

I thank you for you grace to me

I thank you that you will not let me go

I thank you for blood shed on the tree

So that I may be forgiven and made whole

REFRAIN

Have mercy on me, a sinner, O Lord!

Have mercy on me, a wretch!

Have mercy on me, a sinner, O Lord!

By your Son, please have mercy on me!

56/365 - 18th February - Have mercy

I’m really conscious of my own need for God’s mercy at the moment (I suppose I should always be really, but sometimes it’s easy to forget), so I was inspired to pen this:

VERSE 1

It sometimes seems unfair when I look round about

Some people have it easy

Some people have no doubts

Prosperity it follows them, and they are carefree

But then appearances are often deceptive

Who of us really knows our need?

CHORUS

Mercy, mercy, I cry out for your mercy

Lord, have mercy on me

Have mercy on the people that I see

From day to day living their chosen way

But they don’t know you

And one day the chance will pass

VERSE 2

It sometimes seems unfair when I look round about

And I see the hurt and broken

The people our world has cast out

They are ignored, they are despised by most everyone

But then I soon remember

You came to save those in need

CHORUS

Mercy, mercy, I cry out for your mercy

Lord, have mercy on me

Have mercy on the people that I see

From day to day living their chosen way

But they don’t know you

And one day the chance will pass

BRIDGE

Who can live without you?

How can we choose to live this way?

Don’t let us ignore you

I pray you will reveal yourself today

CHORUS

Mercy, mercy, I cry out for your mercy

Lord, have mercy on me

Have mercy on the people that I see

From day to day living their chosen way

But they don’t know you

And one day the chance will pass

55/365 - 17th February - Revival

May God’s kingdom come. Here’s today’s lyric…

VERSE 1

Fame, fame, the fame

Of the only one that matters

Is the only fame I’m interested in

Your name, your name, your name

Is the name above all names

It’s the only one I want to praise

PRE-CHORUS

You glory it shines, oh a light in the darkness

Your Spirit, it moves amongst the people of our land

VERSE 2

Sing, sing, let’s sing

The songs of new revival

Of healing for the people of our land

We shout, we yell, we cry

Cry out to the living God

Reach out and touch our land we pray

PRE-CHORUS

Your glory it shines, oh a light in the darkness

Your spirit, it moves amongst the people of this land

It’s time for those in the shadows to turn to you

It’s time for us to proclaim anew your wonders and glories

CHORUS

Revival, send revival on our land O Lord we pray

Revival, send your spirit amongst us today

Turn the hearts of the fathers to their sons

Turn the hearts of the sons to the fathers

Let the people cry out, let there be no more doubt

That Jesus the Son, the risen One, is king of all kings today

VERSE 2 (REPEAT)

54/365 - 16th February

Here’s today’s lyric:

VERSE 1

I sing for joy to the Lord my God

I sing for joy to the one who saved me

He lifted me up from the grave

And I am now born again

CHORUS

I will rejoice forever more

For the grace of my dear Lord

Has transformed me from death to life

For me he paid the sacrifice

VERSE 2

A new creation made for him

A life remade to serve him now

Freedom bought at awful cost

By the Son upon the cross

CHORUS

I will rejoice forever more

For the grace of my dear Lord

Has transformed me from death to life

For me he paid the sacrifice

53/365 - 15th February - I’ll scream from the rooftops

I’m part way through rewriting and recording a new song at the moment but although I was (perhaps over-optimistically) hoping it would be ready this evening it’s not done so I can’t publish it here yet. So I’ve had to come up with something else at short notice…

VERSE 1

By nature I am a creature of the night

I lurk in the shadows to hide my deeds

I head for the dark, I hide in the maze

I tried to get away from the blaze of light

CHORUS

But the things done in darkness I’ll scream from the roofs

I’ll gladly be a fool to live for you

I cry out my Lord

I don’t care who knows

I will follow you all my days!

VERSE 2

You seek your sheep high and low

There is no sewer nor drain you won’t go

You have no pride to temper your mercy

And grace as you save, and you save, and you save

CHORUS

So the things done in darkness I’ll scream from the roofs

I’ll gladly be a fool to live for you

I cry out my Lord

I don’t care who knows

I will follow you all my days!

BRIDGE

The broken are blessed by your covenant

It’s the lost and the lame and the ones that are not

That you save, that you save, that you save

CHORUS

So the things done in darkness I’ll scream from the roofs

I’ll gladly be a fool to live for you

I cry out my Lord

I don’t care who knows

I will follow you all my days!
